Created in 1988 in Paris by Tamio Ikeda, the Tanakaya Gallery specializes in original prints and antiques from Japan, from the 16th to the 20th century.
It participates on a regular basis in international fairs such as TEFAF in Maastricht since 2010, BRAFA in Brussels since 2004, or La Biennale de Antiquaires in Paris….
Every year, the gallery publishes at least one catalog mainly dedicated to Ukiyo-e and Shin-Hanga prints, of which it is a recognized specialist. It regularly exhibits original works by artists such as Hokusai, Utamaro, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, Kunisada, Yoshitoshi, Yoshida, Gôyô, Kotondo ou Hasui.
The gallery also displays ceramics, including Tea Ceremony wares, lacquers and bronzes.
