A tribute to Germaine Richier, the first female sculptor to be exhibited at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in 1956, this retrospective brings together nearly 200 works - sculptures, engravings and drawings.
Informed by previously unpublished research, the exhibition demonstrates the extent to which Germaine Richier occupies a central position in the history of modern sculpture, like a link between Rodin and the first César. Trained in the tradition of Auguste Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle, Germaine Richier asserted herself as profoundly original and radical in just over 25 years, from the 1930s until her early death in 1959. The exhibition chronologically retraces her artistic trajectory, shedding light on the major themes that nourish her sculptural practice (the human, the animal, myths...). It reveals how Richier revitalized the figure, forging new images of men and women after the war (excerpt from the exhibition presentation).

This exhibition offers a new approach to Edgar Degas' work through his constant interest in black and white which he expresses through printmaking and photography but also through drawing and painting.
|
Driven by an insatiable technical curiosity, the artist has built a work in black and white that has no equivalent in his day and ensures him a singular position among Impressionist artists. With one hundred and sixty pieces from the BnF 's rich collection and prestigious loans, visitors will experience the evolution of a passion that made Degas assert : « If I could have had my own way, I would have confined myself to black and white”.

One hundred and sixty works ( prints, drawings, photographs as well as a painting and a sculpture), from the BnF's collection and from French and foreign loans (musée d’Orsay, musée national Picasso, Institut national d’histoire de l’art...), (Metropolitan Museum of Art), restoring the richness of this work in various media and techniques.These exceptional pieces are related to the works by his friends Mary Cassatt and Camille Pissarro.

Fête de l’estampe /Print Festival

Manifestampe is celebrating the eleventh edition of the Fête de l’Estampe on and around 26 May 2023
La Fête de l’estampe, a great event devoted to engraving, lithography, screen printing along with digital processes is an ideal opportunity to celebrate printmaking in all its forms.
Launched in 2013 by the Manifestampe - National Federation of Printmaking, this event allows the public to discover this art in all its richness.
In the same spirit as the Fête de la musique, the period around 26 May is a chance for artists, art galleries, museums, institutions and art schools to open their doors to the public. Art lovers, collectors, the inquisitive, students and schoolchildren are invited to discover the world of printmaking and to gather around contemporary or heritage works in the intimacy of a studio or in the rooms of a major museum.
The choice of 26 May: 26 May is the day of commemoration of the Edict of Saint-Jean de Luz - May 26, 1660 - which established engraving as a free art in France.

Symposium "L'amateur d'estampes"/"The prints enthusiast",

The University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, the University of Picardie Jules Verne along with the National Institute for Art History are organizing an international symposium on L'amateur d'estampes / The prints enthusiast during the Second Empire and the Third Republic on Thursday, June 1, 2023 in Amiens (Logis du Roy) and on Friday, June 2, 2023 in Paris (Galerie Colbert, Salle Vasari).
Eighteen researchers will evoke amateurs of famous or anonymous prints, their representations, their practices as collectors, their relations with libraries and museums, their role in writing art history, the societies and magazines they created to share their passion.

More than 350 artists come and present their creations and highlight the richness, complexity and power of this incomparable art, on very current topics.
