Founded in 2011, Gillis Goldman Fine Art is essentially focused on the 19th century artworks – drawings, paintings and sculptures – and offers a sophisticated and sought-after selection of artworks from the great currents of the century: from Romanticism to Neo-Impressionism, from northern schools to Pont-Aven, from Nabis to symbolism. Some of the world’s greatest museums, regularly acquire important artworks from the gallery, such as The British Museum, Le Musée d’Orsay, The Art Institute de Chicago, The Getty Museum, The Metropolitan Museum, etc. Gillis Goldman Fine Art seeks, above all to orientate his taste towards singular artistic axes in order to extract the strongest works and to identify amazing and sometimes confidential artists on the market.
Located in the heart of Brussels, the gallery has also built a proven reputation for the Belgian art- Fin de Siècle -, especially symbolism. The prominent figures of this artistic movement, whose outbreak dates back to the turn of the 1880s to 1910, are : Ensor, Mellery, Rops, Khnopff, Spilliaert, Degouve de Nuncques et Delville.
Collector, expert advisor and gallery owner, Eric Gillis holds a Master’s degree in Art History at the University of Lausanne, obtained in the 1990s. He then developed expertise and experience by collaborating with various museum institutions in Switzerland, Paris and London, before becoming a partner at C G Boerner in New York for ten years. Back to Brussels in 2011, he launched Eric Gillis Fine Art. He is joined in 2015 by Noémie Goldman, Doctor in Art History and a 19th century art expert. In 2021 the gallery becomes Gillis Goldman Fine Art.
In 2023, the gallery continues its activity under a new name, that of Agnews Gallery, a gallery founded in London in 1817, specialized in works on paper, and with which it creates a new collaboration.
